Michael Jackson, the child prodigy who grew up to become a childlike global megastar died on 25th June 2009 thursday, afternoon of reported cardiqac arrest, even as rumours swirled of a painkiller overdose. The King of Pop is the only artist apart from the Beatles and Elvis Presley to sell over 750m copies, including 100m copies worldwide of Thriller, the bestselling album of all the time. He won 13 Grammies and his pathbreaking videos played a big role in MTV's early success. But he was haunted by allegations that he molested children and controversies over an increasingly bizarre lifestyle.
Towards the end of his life, he was said to be $500m in debt. Jackson had not toured since 1997 and his last album, 'Invincible' was released in in 2001. But he remained a huge box-office draw, with 50 forthcoming shows of his comeback tour in London sold out. The sows were expected to fetch him $50m, but its sad that his real motivation was to let his children see him perform live for the first time, though there is also some talk that greedy members of his coterie mighr have egged him on. Poor health forced a postponement of the first show from July 8 to July 13. He continued his preparations for a comeback, but it became a dream.
